Pocahontas was the daughter of Powhatan, a paramount chief. She lived near Jamestown, where she was captured during the First Anglo-Powhatan Wars. She met John Rolfe, her future husband, in the town of Henricus. Considered nobility, her father being chief, allowing her to marry John Rolfe. She moved to England with Rolfe becoming a celebrity. English people flaunted over her calling her a “civilized savage,” popular with the royalty and high class; she became the first Native American to attend the Whitehall Palace masque. In 1617, Pocahontas died on her way back to Virginia after getting ill.
