Reaching Women one Door and Mailbox at a Time

With limited financial backing, these women found creative ways to sell their products. Lydia Pinkham wrote and mailed booklets that offered advice to women. This “advice” almost always included the use of her products and the booklets included a convenient order form. These booklets were mailed to women across the country, including women in Delmarva.

Madam C. J. Walker started her business by going door-to-door in neighborhoods and providing demonstrations of her products. When her brand took off, she created training programs and formed a national network of licensed sales agents to sell her products.
