Discussion of war often focuses on the reasons for conflict, major battles and victories, and the outcome. More difficult to speak about is the act of war – the atrocities that are inherent with battle and the moral and ethical dilemmas faced by soldiers during combat.
Artifacts associated with military service and war veterans are plentiful in local history collections. Medals, uniforms, letters, photographs, and oral histories are among the many items that document and personalize the wartime experience. However, this selection of objects from the Nabb Research Center highlights some of the complexities of war.
