James Thrash papers

James R. Thrash (b. 1932) was Salisbury University’s library director from 1969 to 1999. He obtained a B.A. from Ohio State University and a MSLA from Western Reserve University. The records consist of the personal and administrative papers of James R. Thrash. Most of the material relates to higher functions in academia such as annual reviews, reports, minutes, policy and procedure manuals. Several folders focus on the expansion of Blackwell Library in the 1970s and some contain research papers written by Thrash while taking English courses at Salisbury State College from 1978 to 1980.

Fischer papers document purchases, subscriptions, and collections made by Judy Fischer while she was Head of Technical Services at Blackwell Library and Associate Director of Blackwell Library from 1973 to 1996. Included in this collection is a printer manual, information about book binding companies, micropublishing companies, fax machine companies, expenditure and analysis paperwork, and information about various subscriptions Blackwell Library had to collect new materials, especially material on microfilm. There is also a Masters Theses by Kimberly D. Hoffman-Goodson entitled: The Effect of Simulation on Data Retention in a Group of Nursing Students.

Records of the Library

The Records of the Library contain records, photographs, and memorabilia from Salisbury University Libraries that range from 1950 to 1990. The University Libraries began as the College Library and was housed in Holloway Hall. In 1957, a building known as the College Library was built. The building was dedicated as Blackwell Library in 1966. In 2016, the library moved from Blackwell to the newly constructed Guerrieri Academic Commons. The records include information on the administration, employees, and changes of the Library. Changes mentioned include the building and dedication of Blackwell as well as the Guerrieri Academic Commons. Ledgers and journals in the collection detail incoming books, fines, and lost books. The collection also includes scrapbooks, photographs, and other ephemera relating to the library. Library publications and material relating to events hosted by the library are present in the collection.

The Records of the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons​ contains blueprints, meeting notes, newspaper articles, and various correspondences surrounding the construction of the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons that range from 1998 to 2016. Plans for a new library began in 2006 with a Library Program Part I that outlined the goals of what the new library should accomplish and then finally in 2016, ten years later, the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons​ opened its doors to Salisbury University students and staff. The records include information on the design process and the various meetings through the construction from 2014 to 2016. The collection is mainly centered around the various design and construction blueprints, but also includes design catalogs, emails discussing safety measures for the building, and price bids.

Wicomico Public Libraries Collection

This collection includes family research, publications, photos and historical materials from the Wicomico County Free Library (now Wicomico Public Libraries). Series 1 is family research related to the Dashiell family and some materials related to other families.The Dashiell family documents consist of hand-written family history manuscripts and family trees. Two folders contain other family history research and records. The second series is historical materials. The United Fund of Wicomico County records are documents related to contributions by local businesses and the contents of scrapbooks for yearly fund drives. The 1856 school workbook contains mathematics notes. The legal records are an index of Wicomico County civil court cases, a Works Progress Administration record of workers on the Johnson Pond Spillway construction, and photo reproductions of manuscript records of postmasters of Wicomico and Somerset Counties. The Creative Works are two sheet music booklets, prints of Wicomico County sketches, and a list of winners of the Salisbury Award. The books are a pictorial history of the American Civil War from 1862, Delaware American Revolution bicentennial booklet on Caesar Rodney, A Handbook for Delmarva Archaeology, and a facsimile reproduction in book form of The Proceedings of the Constitutional Convention of 1776 and First Maryland Constitution. Series 3 comprises publications of local interest and content. Series 4 consists of photos and images associated with the Salisbury and Wicomico County area. Some Words About Preservation was a publication of the Maryland Historical Trust that gave news on the status of historical site preservation. Tidewater Times contains articles related to Eastern Shore topics, as well as advertisements of area businesses. The collection of journals and journal articles consist of Maryland and Delaware archaeology articles and journals, two copies of Shellfish Digest from winter 1979, and four issues of the Old Somerset newsletter from 1985. Series 4 contains photos and images of Wicomico County and Salisbury dating from the 1890s to the 1970s.
