The Scott family papers document the Scott, Marshall, and Lankford families of Princess Anne, Maryland from 1842 to 1995, though primarily from the 1880s to the 1940s. Included are four photograph albums and many other photos; correspondence, autograph books, and programs related to Washington High School from Harriet "Hattie" Marshall Scott; Second World War correspondence and Boy Scouts of America documents from William Marshall Scott; World War II homefront and Somerset County Board of Education materials from Jeanette Gore Scott; and handwritten poetry and autograph books of Sally and Mollie Porter.
Scrapbook of Ethel Barguet

The Scrapbook of Ethel Barguet was compiled between 1891 and 1901. Barguet, who was an 1891 graduate of the Fifth Avenue Grammar School in Mount Vernon, New York, worked as a "play room teacher" with the Children's Aid Society in New York City. Barguet was also invited to continue her work with the Episcopal City Mission in Boston. The scrapbook consists of invitations to social gatherings in upstate New York, New York City, and Long Island, stamps, collections of phrases and writing, hair clippings, and flower pressings. While the last quarter of the scrapbook appear empty, there is at least one poem written on a folded sheet of paper.

This scrapbook contains correspondence, photographs, and ephemera that Iva Brooks, a young woman from Center Haverhill, New Hampshire, collected between 1928 and 1929. The scrapbook documents Brooks' life as a member of the faculty at the Powers Institute in Massachusetts and when she became engaged to Henry Root.

Many languages are represented, including Japanese, German, Russian, Spanish, French, and more. Subjects such as the history of education, the American Civil War, and Japanese foreign relations are especially well represented. There are approximately 1400 books and periodicals, all acquired at different times and manners. Some of the major topics included in the collection are: race relations, Australia, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, African American history, Native American history, military history (American Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean War), education, industry, labor history, agriculture, railways, government and politics, international relations, socialism, communism, economics, prisons, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, prohibition, temperance, women's history and groups, and biographies and obituaries.

Thomas Fernon Poetry Journal

This journal contains poetry written by Thomas Sargent Fernon of Pennsylvania between 1845 and 1855. The title page of the journal reads "Recreations in Rhythm." Fernon was a Pennsylvania Senator, author, editor, and president of several railroads. He organized, raised money, and built the North Pennsylvania Railroad and was the president of the Chester Valley Railroad. In 1845 he was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature and into the State Senate in 1848. Moreover, Fernon started the publication of the United States Mining and Railroad Register. The transcribed journal is attached.
