Keep These Hands Off

This terrifying poster was produced during World War II by the Canadian National War Finance Committee to sell Victory Bonds. Strategic propaganda campaigns were initiated to help in the effort, and they were very successful. Approximately half of the Canadian war cost was covered by War Savings Certificates and Victory Bonds.

Images depicting women or children in danger were incredibly effective in arousing fear. Here, a young mother holds her baby while two menacing claws close in upon them. One claw has a swastika to represent Nazi Germany and the other, a rising sun to represent Japan.
