The Old School Baptist Church records consist of manuscript materials and periodicals documenting the faith and practices of the Old School Baptist Churches on the Delmarva Peninsula from 1701-2013, with the bulk of the records dating from 1875 to 1999. The collection includes meeting minutes of the Forest Grove, Little Creek, Broad Creek, Salisbury, Rewastico, Nassaongo, Snow Hill, Rock Springs, Indiantown, and Pitts Creek Old School Baptist Churches from 1799-2013. The collection also includes a complete run of Signs of the Times, the journal of the Old School Baptist faith, from 1875-1969.

The papers of Polly Stewart document her educational work as well as her research and dedication to folklore and folklife on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and other cultural groups from 1964-2013, with the bulk of the material dating from her professorship at Salisbury University, 1974-2000. The material contains teaching notes from courses at Salisbury University including literature, mythology, as well as LGBTQ and Feminism studies, research materials on lynchings, folklore, folklife, cultural exploration, and her records of participation in a variety of societies such as the Maryland Folklore Festival.

Religious Journal of James Caldwell

This religious journal was written in the 1830s by James Caldwell of Buckskin Township, Ohio and served as both a diary and journal for writing published religious texts. The journal contains diary entries about sin and God from the writer's perspective, but the majority of the entries are commentaries on sin, repentance, the blood of Christ, Satan, and the death of God's enemies. The journal is hand sewn and pages are completely filled, sometimes with writing sideways and reverse, and some of the pages are recycled from other uses. Caldwell was an immigrant from Ireland, fought in the War of 1812, and was an early founder and school teacher in Buckskin Township.

Reverend William Gwynn Coe letters

These letters were written to and from Reverend William Gwynn Coe in 1862 and 1864 when Coe was preaching in the Methodist Convention of Accomack, Virginia. In the letters, church matters are discussed, as well as grievances with the occupying Union army. During this time--during the American Civil War--Coe held secessionist views and ran past the Union blockade to acquire goods in Baltimore for family and friends. Also included is a biographical sketch of Coe and one letter sent to a different reverend requesting a lecture to Confederate soldiers from North Carolina.
Richard W. Cooper papers

The Richard Cooper papers document his professional and personal activities through his collection of materials dating from 1605 to 2001. The documents focus on the religious and political histories of Wicomico and Worcester County as well as the history of the Mason-Dixon Boundary Line depicted through Cooper’s column in the Daily Times. The papers also document the topographic history of Delmarva through Cooper’s career as an engineering surveyor. Documents from his surveying career and interests include topographic maps, survey certificates, land deeds, and plats. A photograph album documents the construction of his family home at 611 Tony Tank Lane in Salisbury, Maryland. Materials within the collection include newspaper clippings, photographs, family histories, and correspondence. Drafts and manuscripts of Cooper’s published works on the history of Salisbury, Profile of a Colonial Community, Salisbury in Times Gone By, and Portrait of Salisbury are contained within the collection.
Robertson Family History Collection

This collection contains a large compilation of random greeting cards sent to residents of Whitehaven, MD ranging from the early 1900’s to the late 1930’s. The majority of the cards appear to have been sent to Mrs. Willie “Billie” Robertson. The collection also contains a Register of Wills attributing the date of death for George B. Robertson as Mar. 20, 1936. A handwritten synopsis is provided on each of the postcards on a separate sheet of paper, author unknown. Also included are copies of Robertson’s wills, savings, checkbooks, land deeds, and funeral arrangements. Certain pamphlets from Maryland State Normal Class presentations and a Cruise ship itinerary are included.
Ruth Stull Letters

These letters were written from Ruth Stull to her family from 1925 to 1933 while she was on religious missions in Peru and Ecuador. Some letters are signed by Ruth and her husband Roscoe and are oftentimes multiple pages with extensive details about their missionary work with natives and uncontacted tribes, evacuations to remote places, the birth of her child, and regional conflicts like the war in Peru and military coup in Ecuador. Stull later wrote a book about her missionary work called "Sand and Stars" in 1951.
