Alumni collection

The Salisbury University Alumni Association was founded to “develop and foster an abiding loyalty to Salisbury University; promote a professional and ethical spirit; encourage active participation in all activities that pertain to the betterment and growth of the University; unite graduates and undergraduates in Salisbury University; and take such other actions as may be deemed appropriate to promote the interests and welfare of Salisbury University.” (From the Salisbury University Alumni Association website.) The association achieves their mission by hosting events throughout the country to unite alumni, hosting reunions, and distributing newsletters. The association encourages its members to send notices of nuptials, births, and other lifetime achievements for publishing in the association’s newsletter. The Alumni Collection contains proposed constitutions, Alumni Association history, membership and reunion directories, invitations to reunions and other alumni events, wedding and birth announcements, postcards, ephemera, newspaper clippings, newsletters from 1950 to 2005, and a medal commemorating the completion of the Alumni House in 1996. Documents surrounding the Alumni Association’s induction ceremonies from 1931 to 1951 are present.
Alvin and Dorothy Piegols Papers

The Alvin and Dorothy Piegols papers document the experiences of Alvin Piegols as he served in the Army during World War II and of his fiancée, Dorothy Cannon, who was studying to be a nurse at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. The materials date between 1939 and 2024, with the bulk of the textual materials dating between 1939 to 1947. Items in the collection include "the Scalpel" yearbook, correspondence between Dorothy and Alvin, newspapers, photographs from Alvin's tour in Europe, postcards of German towns, programs and pamphlets, publications about Alvin's battalion, the Thunderbolts, and artifacts such as Alvin's military patches, German pins, a Nazi flag, and a wooden crucifix. Family photographs document Dorothy and Alvin's marriage and family and date from 1943 to 1992.

Embroiders' Guild of America: Chesapeake Chapter Collection

This collection consists of various documents from 1978 to 2011 pertaining to the Embroiders' Guild of America's Chesapeake Chapter. Included are photographs of embroidery pieces and various events such as annual retreat. In addition, the collection contains the chapter's periodic newsletter, "The Chesapeake Sampler," that discussed past events, a blue banner that has squares sewn on from 1981 and was put together in 1986 and a scrapbook called, "The Swans," dated 1989 that was donated by the Mid-Wessex Branch Embroiders' Guild from Salisbury, England for the Chesapeake Chapter's 10th Anniversary Exhibition. Also included are the chapter's administrative files such as their meeting minutes, bylaws, budgets, newspaper articles, memos and letters. Included are correspondence and printed materials from the national organization.
Lions Club Collection

This collection contains a series of photographs of the Lions Club and its members. Some of the pictures are of members, others are of events, one of which took place at Princess Anne Elementary. There are two photographs that do not directly correspond to the Lions Club group, one is of a store front with three men standing on the porch, and the other is of a school class. In addition, there is a newspaper article about the awarding of a plaque to previous Lions Club presidents as well as a notice of the annual Lions Black Out Minstrel Show. There is also a clip from the "County Officer Magazine" with a message from the President of National Association of County Officials.

Included in the collection is a photograph from a newspaper, a graduation souvenir book, a booklet with well-wishes from fellow students, Burlin's diploma and the Alumni News Letter from May 1954.

The Old School Baptist Church records consist of manuscript materials and periodicals documenting the faith and practices of the Old School Baptist Churches on the Delmarva Peninsula from 1701-2013, with the bulk of the records dating from 1875 to 1999. The collection includes meeting minutes of the Forest Grove, Little Creek, Broad Creek, Salisbury, Rewastico, Nassaongo, Snow Hill, Rock Springs, Indiantown, and Pitts Creek Old School Baptist Churches from 1799-2013. The collection also includes a complete run of Signs of the Times, the journal of the Old School Baptist faith, from 1875-1969.

Peninsula General Hospital, now called TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, has served the Salisbury area since its opening in 1897. These records include newsletters, articles, minutes and information from committee meetings, financial and statistical reports, correspondence, information from their School of Nursing and School of Medical Technology, and proposed program plans.
