Henry Shipley Parker Papers

The Henry Shipley Parker Papers contains photographs, newspapers, plaques, awards, certificates and political information ranging from the 1920s to 2012. The photographs include family pictures of Parker's father, wife and other family members. There are also a number of photographs that are autographed including one signed by Senator John Kerry. In the collection, there are also photographs of Parker’s high school reunion and a Wicomico High Class of 1939 class photo. Also included are photographs of the Adkins family, who owned the company where Henry Parker and his father worked for an extended period of time. The newspapers include articles on the Class of 1939’s reunion, accomplishments of both Henry Parker and his father, and articles on projects in Wicomico County. There are many plaques in this collection illustrating the number of accomplishments Henry Parker made in his lifetime. Included are Fire Department plaques for years of dedication to helping different departments and a Baseball Hall of Membership Plaque. Also plaques from Wicomico County for serving the county and for the many things he helped accomplish; such as the Athletic Complex, the Corrections Facility, the Detention Center, help to the Sheriff’s Department and many more. Included is an Apple from the Teacher Award, the Marilyn J. Praisner Public Service award, the Jack R. Nichols Humanitarian award, the G. Maxwell Armor award and many certificates. This collection includes Henry S. Parker’s political information, including voting records, as well as government Political information, including the 1957 Presidential Inauguration Program. Interesting things included are a US district court case involving the Black population in Wicomico county felt they were suffering from a history of official discrimination and a soldiers World War I Bible.

Included are two savings account booklets from the 1900s to 1920, financial notes and estate documents from the 1890s, a financial ledger also used for the minutes of the Salisbury Coronet Band from the 1870s, and two high school graduation speeches from 1899 and 1901.
John Hafford Ledgers

These ten ledgers were maintained by John F. Hafford of Washington, D.C. between 1923 and 1960. Hafford was a First World War veteran who worked as a clerk within the U.S. government, specifically the Department of Labor. Throughout the 1920s to 1950s, he bought, sold, and managed properties throughout the D.C. area and western shore of Maryland. His accounts were with various individuals and companies, many of which were indexed at the beginning of each ledger. Maryland properties were primarily located in Anne Arundel county, including Deale and Churchton. Also included are advertisements for his properties and two photographs, one likely of Hafford.

This ledger was kept by E.C. Kinnear, a shoe maker in Farmington, New Hampshire, from 1965 to 1866. Kinnear's accounts included "Francis Dane & Co.," one of Boston's leading 19th century shoe makers. Category headings included "Factory Balance Sheet," "Account Stock" (for the sole leather, uppers, and 'handmade of workmen' departments), "Stock Sold" including boxes, split pieces, sheep skin, pounds of wax, shoes, buckles, and soles, and "Factory" expenses such as trucking, freight, zinc nails for shoe making, blacking material, twine balls and pounds of twine, knives, knife blades, sawing and fitting wood, stitching machine, stuffings, stencil plates, work on sole leather tub, iron for heel fitting, and stools. Several factory worker's names are listed, along with weeks worked and jobs performed ("bottoming loafers," "binding loafers," "riveting shoes," or "riveting uppers").
