The Assateague Island Ferry was used to take people and their automobiles to Ocean Beach; a new community in the early stages of development. In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed a bill creating Assateague National Seashore, thus forever ending the development of Ocean Beach.

Cannon Ferry Ledger, January-December 1835. The Cannon Ferry Ledger details the transactions between customers and those operating the ferry. Mr. J. L. Neal was in control of the ferry and ledger circa 1885-1888, and his personal papers and business documents have been pasted into the ledger. The transcribed ledger is attached.

Documenting materials include newspaper articles from the 1950s on Salisbury's first automobile show and the separation of Maryland's Eastern Shore from the rest of the state, as well as a black and white photograph of several old-fashioned cars. A Pennsylvania Railroad map from 1901 completes the collection.

Much of the collection is devoted to photographs of fires and disasters which have occurred in and around Salisbury, Maryland since the early part of the 20th century. This collection provides a unique look at the growth of a municipal government agency, transportation, and technology as well as living and working conditions.
