The papers of Michael Lewis reflect research he and several students collected regarding Maryland environmental history after his arrival at Salisbury University in 2000. A significant portion of the papers pertain to the Delmarva Peninsula including the health of the Chesapeake Bay, Ocean City, and Maryland ecology. There is also research conducted on the transition of 20th century Delmarva agriculture and the poultry industry. The papers include several oral histories from Dr. Lewis’ colleagues, ornithologists from the Ward Museum, and Delmarva environmentalists. Many of the documents are facsimiles of their original whose origin dates from 1887-2009.

This collection is comprised of original papers including deeds, plats, wills, letters, bill of sale, mortgage, receipts, oyster lots, lease, notice, survey, and account pages in the possession of Nancy Insley Gribbon relating to the Insley and allied families of Somerset County, Maryland. The original documents have been photocopied and these photocopies are housed with the original documents. The date range of the material is from 1792 until 1914.

Retail ledger from an unknown oyster supply store once located in Crisfield, Somerset County, Maryland, 1910-1915. The ledger is indexed alphabetically with purchaser's names; their supply purchases and financial responsibilities were noted on their designated pages. Local oyster industries also purchased goods from the retailer; these purchases which included crates, lumber and rope are noted in the back of the folio. Noted companies include John L. Handy Company, Whealton and Company, and A.E. Tull Oyster Company.

This collection contains three documents concerning the oyster fisheries of the eastern shore of Delmarva during the mid to late 19th Century and early 20th Century. The first is entitled "Report of the Oyster Fisheries of MD" written in 1874. The second is a report by Captain Hunter Davidson of the Commanding State Oyster Police Force in October 1869, and the third is a manuscript sent to Maryland Governor Austin L. Crothers on December 28th, 1909.

Also included in the collection are a set of additional materials relating to the family's activities in the town of Bivalve.
