The Henrietta Byrd papers are deeds, wills, lease, transactions, and correspondence of a 19th Century businesswomen in Salisbury, Maryland, 1842-1891. Following the death of her husband, Henrietta sought legal counsel from Congressmen and Attorney, John Rankin Franklin, to understand her rights as a widowed entrepreneur in the Antebellum Era. She later owned at least two properties, including the “Wicomico House,” which was four-story restaurant and hotel on Main Street, Salisbury.

The Hodgman Family Journals document the lives of Hellena (Hellen) Hauserman and Kendrick Hodgman from 1875 to 1932 in sixteen journals. Two of the journals are written by Hellen in 1875 and 1876 prior to her marriage to Kendrick and describe her daily activities on her family's farm in Parma, Ohio. Thirteen of the journals are written by Kendrick, from 1891 and 1919-1932, about his daily activities in Ohio. The last journal's author is unknown but chronicles the Hodgman family's history from 1875 to 1932.

Also documented through correspondence, legal records, and photographs are boarders who resided with the Humphreys and associated families including Mary Gordon Toadvine, Joseph and Mary Graham and John D. Williams.

Dulany and Son Inc. which was located in Fruitland Maryland. The materials date from the company’s inception in 1899 through 1984 with the bulk of the material dating from 1944-1966. The materials include photographs, correspondence, biographies, and awards documents the growth of the Dulany plants as well as business and political interests of the company. Biographies and photographs of Dulany family members and histories of the company are also included.
John Hafford Ledgers

These ten ledgers were maintained by John F. Hafford of Washington, D.C. between 1923 and 1960. Hafford was a First World War veteran who worked as a clerk within the U.S. government, specifically the Department of Labor. Throughout the 1920s to 1950s, he bought, sold, and managed properties throughout the D.C. area and western shore of Maryland. His accounts were with various individuals and companies, many of which were indexed at the beginning of each ledger. Maryland properties were primarily located in Anne Arundel county, including Deale and Churchton. Also included are advertisements for his properties and two photographs, one likely of Hafford.
John Jacob Collection

The John Jacob Collection consists of two parts that document the life and career of attorney and historian, John E. Jacob, Jr.: collected material and personal research. Jacob collected a variety of original documents that comprise series one of the collection, including personal papers of families, ledgers, scrapbooks, land and legal documents, photographs, ephemera, and other paper-based items. Jacob also kept detailed handwritten notes and indices when researching various topics related to the history of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, as well as his handwritten drafts for books and lectures, which comprise series two of the collection. The collection has folder-level descriptions in the inventory.
