Military Contributions from the Eastern Shore

Residents of the Delmarva Peninsula have answered the call to military service throughout the nation’s history. Some have served at home guarding the region’s shoreline, while others have been deployed.

Men and women of Delmarva have contributed to military operations from the Revolutionary War to the current campaigns around the world. Their service had an impact on the lives of their comrades and global communities, and it affected the lives of people on Delmarva.

Uniforms, letters, photographs, medals, and certificates document and commemorate their hard work and dedication, providing a window into the lives of soldiers and their families. While members of the military were fighting abroad, family members were doing what they could to help. From raising children as single parents, making clothes and preparing care packages, or participating in ceremonial celebrations, people who remained on the home front contributed in many ways to the nation’s various wartime efforts.
