Ledger of Dr. Clark Hancock

This ledger was kept by Clark Hancock, a doctor from Smith Center, Kansas between 1937 and 1942, and also includes enclosed letters that date to 1947. Hancock recorded the names of townspeople from the farming community who paid for treatment, usually with goods such as melons, apples, potatoes, onions, turkey, milk, eggs, lettuce, chickens, or by chopping wood and ironing. The letters included are between Clark and an itinerant evangelist preacher, Henry Clarence Hall.

Ledger of Shipping Merchant Robert Peacock

The ledger of shipping merchant, Robert Peacock documents the merchant voyages he invested in as well as the goods he traded and sold at his store in Oxford, Maryland, 1766-1778. Peacock had a pension for luxury wares including silver pieces, silk stockings, fabrics, wine, and rum; as noted in the ledger on multiple occasions, Peacock dealt in the trade of human cargo. On page 19, Peacock signs his own name, beneath the credit balance. At the back of the ledger are 29 pages of handwritten notations on the life of George Washington, from John Marshall's, "The Life of George Washington".
