The Arlene Goslee Knowles scrapbooks document the experience of a young woman coming of age during World War II, 1943-1949. The collection also conveys how an American woman during this period, engages and finds global interconnections. There is ephemera related to her brother, John Goslee’s service in World War II. Additionally, there is material related to relationships she developed with other Methodists in South East Asia. The scrapbooks contain church programs, newspapers, photographs, postcards and ephemera related to Arlene’s life.

The Baglean Literary Society was founded in September, 1925 and was named in honor of Dr. William C. Bagley. The Carnean Literary Society was named in honor of local educator, Miss Mabel Carney. The Baglean and Carnean Societies competed with each other yearly in athletics and theatrical productions. The Baglean and Carnean Society collection includes two notebooks containing the minutes and finances of the Baglean Society from 1926 to 1929. Loose papers included in the collection contain minutes for the Carnean Society from 1931 to 1932, rosters of Carnean Society members, correspondence of the Carnean Society, programs for competitions between the two societies, and the societies’ songs.

The papers of the Bayly family extensively document the Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland family from 1706-1934, with the bulk of the material dating from 1820-1865. This comprehensive collection documents the lengthy legal and political career of Maryland Attorney General Josiah Bayly, as well as the prolific medical practices of his son, Dr. Alexander Hamilton Bayly. Simultaneously, the collection documents family education practices, and thoughts on the American Civil War through scrapbooks and correspondence. Leisure activities are observed through a variety of fictional publications from the Library of Select Novels, and the Shakespeare Quarto Illustrated. Additional printed materials include local and national newspapers, almanac’s, weekly satirical magazines, Godey’s Lady’s Book and Blackwood’s Edinburg Magazine.
