The eclectic collection from Somerset County, Md. dates from 1845 to 1999, with the bulk from 1920 to 1956. It includes a doctor’s bill for the treatment of slaves in 1845, historical records from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Marion, Md., and Caroline Gunby’s cross-country travel diary from 1939.

Christian Education Movement Collection

This collection contains numerous amounts of sermons and overviews of prayer meetings with dates ranging from 1900 to 1911. Each sermon and prayer meeting is headed with a quote from one of the books of the bible. There is evidence relating most letters to the Christian Education Movement in Virginia, however no name or identification of the writer(s) was found. The letters sometimes contained newspaper clippings. In a few letters the writer wrote in support of prohibition - writing to the government about the dangers of alcohol.

They also document his Lions Club membership and the grammar school education of Daniel J. Whealton II in Salisbury, Md. through certificates.
College Financial Records

This collection contains the financial records of Salisbury University during its first several decades of existence as the Maryland State Normal School and State Teachers College. The documents consist of ledger books with finance information dating from the mid-1920s to the late 1970s, with loose memorandums and calculations inside some of the books. The earlier items in the collection contain handwritten correspondence from William J. Holloway, the first principal of the school. Records include student payments to the school, disbursements from the school various Salisbury and national businesses, student refunds, cash payments, receipts, financial aid payments, payroll records, itemized supply and book purchases, and receipts. Records from the tenure of William J. Holloway contain reference to audits of the school by the state, and some refunds not received by students in correspondence and memorandums left inside the ledgers.
