Jeanne Severance Letters

This collection consists of letters from Jeanne Severance, a Red Cross volunteer, to Martha and Constance Greene from 1945 to 1946. Severance wrote from and reported on events in the many places she served, which included France, India, China, Myanmar, and Mexico. Several letters were censored by the United States Army. Also included are photographs of the Greenes in 1962 and some newspaper clippings. At the time, the Greenes had opened the office of Martha Greene real estate company on Long Island in Montauk, New York; there are several pictures of Martha in front of the original offices. The transcription of the letters is attached.

The Waller Family Collection is a genealogical collection relating to the Waller family from 1606-2008 with the bulk of the collection ranging from 1982-1998. The majority of the collection contains genealogical information of the direct line of the Waller family as well as the various extended family lines. The collection also includes topical publications on Somerset County and the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland as well as online and genealogical research manuals. The collection documents the family with images, newspaper clippings, tax documents, church and census documents, and letters.

John Jacob Collection

The John Jacob Collection consists of two parts that document the life and career of attorney and historian, John E. Jacob, Jr.: collected material and personal research. Jacob collected a variety of original documents that comprise series one of the collection, including personal papers of families, ledgers, scrapbooks, land and legal documents, photographs, ephemera, and other paper-based items. Jacob also kept detailed handwritten notes and indices when researching various topics related to the history of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, as well as his handwritten drafts for books and lectures, which comprise series two of the collection. The collection has folder-level descriptions in the inventory.

Lankford Family papers

The Lankford Family Papers document the Somerset County, Maryland family's activities through extensive correspondence, land records, photographs, newspaper clippings, genealogical notes, and other materials. While the collection dates between 1683 and 1975, the majority dates between 1812 and 1897. Much of the correspondence revolves around Benjamin Lankford (1798-1886), who served in the Maryland General Assembly between the 1840s and 1870s, as well as his wife, Susan, and her sister Mary Jane Guillet. The correspondence in the collection is described at the item level.

Larry Mika Letters

This collection consists of letters that were primarily sent from Lawrence "Larry" Mika to his mother, Leona, in Bay City, Michigan from 1971 to 1972. However, some letters were sent from or to Larry's friend and brother, as well as a series of letters from Leona to Larry in late 1972. At the beginning of the correspondence, Larry was in boot camp and was later stationed in Germany. He wrote frequently about cars and stereos, in addition to things that his mother should send him.

Letter from R.E. Powell Company to Ida Dixon
