German and Nazi Stereoviews

These German and Nazi Stereoviews consist of two separate collections of stereoview photographs that were collected by a U.S. Army colonel. Included are two stereoview finders. The first collection of photographs depict the Third Reich's military might and Nazi Party ceremonial events. These 73 photographs, of which there were originally 100, are described in German on the versos, which was translated by the wife of the Colonel who collected the stereoviews. The other collection consists of 36 photographs that show the United States-occupied zone of Germany, which are identified in English.

Henry Shipley Parker Papers

The Henry Shipley Parker Papers contains photographs, newspapers, plaques, awards, certificates and political information ranging from the 1920s to 2012. The photographs include family pictures of Parker's father, wife and other family members. There are also a number of photographs that are autographed including one signed by Senator John Kerry. In the collection, there are also photographs of Parker’s high school reunion and a Wicomico High Class of 1939 class photo. Also included are photographs of the Adkins family, who owned the company where Henry Parker and his father worked for an extended period of time. The newspapers include articles on the Class of 1939’s reunion, accomplishments of both Henry Parker and his father, and articles on projects in Wicomico County. There are many plaques in this collection illustrating the number of accomplishments Henry Parker made in his lifetime. Included are Fire Department plaques for years of dedication to helping different departments and a Baseball Hall of Membership Plaque. Also plaques from Wicomico County for serving the county and for the many things he helped accomplish; such as the Athletic Complex, the Corrections Facility, the Detention Center, help to the Sheriff’s Department and many more. Included is an Apple from the Teacher Award, the Marilyn J. Praisner Public Service award, the Jack R. Nichols Humanitarian award, the G. Maxwell Armor award and many certificates. This collection includes Henry S. Parker’s political information, including voting records, as well as government Political information, including the 1957 Presidential Inauguration Program. Interesting things included are a US district court case involving the Black population in Wicomico county felt they were suffering from a history of official discrimination and a soldiers World War I Bible.

Holloway Photograph Collection

Dr. William James Holloway was born in Salisbury on January 29, 1873. The Holloway Photograph Collection depicts the formative years of the Maryland State Normal School from 1925-1928, Holloway’s family life and activities in the 1920s, and Wicomico County Public Schools in the 1910s. In 1908, Holloway became the Wicomico County Superintendent of Schools, during which he also earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University. By 1917, he was named the State Supervisor of Rural Schools and then the Assistant State Superintendent of Schools in 1922. Holloway’s proposal for a normal school in Salisbury came to fruition in September 1925; he was named superintendent and principal of the school. Holloway resigned on October 5, 1934 and passed away on Saturday March 14, 1936.
