Virginia Ayers Satterfield Scrapbook Collection

This collection contains personal memorabilia of Amanda Virginia Ayres Spencer Satterfield. Included are two scrapbooks relating to her high school experience at Ocean City (MD) High School from 1932 to 1939. In addition there is a ledger book from the Ambassador Apartments/Hotel from 1941 to 1944 which her father, Samuel Jacob Ayres owned and she later owned. The scrapbooks highlight her many activities, love interests and trips while at school. The ledger documents the guests who stayed at the hotel and the revenue accumulated during that period.

Wade Thompson Porter papers

The papers of Wade Thompson Porter document his life and experiences, beginning with his childhood on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in the late 1800s until his eventual retirement in the 1940s. In addition to newspaper clippings and photographs, the collection includes several decades worth of personal correspondence which address contemporary social and political issues and recount Porter’s childhood memories of late-19th century rural America. Also, there are personal documents related to Porter’s service in the Spanish-American War, as well as his Masonic membership. A considerable amount of material focuses on genealogical research of the Porter family and their descendants, including comprehensive Porter and Twilley family trees dating back to the mid-1700s.

Wilmer O. Lankford III papers

Lankford III encompass his research materials and original manuscripts of his four-volume book, They Lived in Somerset; including Lankford family documents such as Wilmer’s Western Maryland College scrapbook, as well as facsimiles and transcripts of church records, from Somerset County, Maryland, 1894-2008. Additional components include Rev. William Colbert’s account of his travels in Somerset County from 1801-1807, and the diary of Ida Marshall Lankford that reflects the lynching of Isaac Kemp for the murder of Constable Ned Carver.

Woodrow T. Wilson papers

The papers of Woodrow T. Wilson are a comprehensive documentation of his extensive research conducted to author his four-volume series on Crisfield, Maryland and Somerset County, Maryland as well as numerous articles written for the Crisfield Times. Manuscripts, proof copies, and unpublished materials authored by Wilson and his associates are also included. The amassed collection of newspaper clippings, birth, marriage and death records, family histories and typed articles are a testament to the people of Crisfield, 1907-2000 with the bulk of the material dating from 1968-1980.
