Alpha Kappa Alpha Pledges of 1989

With the Mu Chi chapter inactive, seven young women were initiated into General Membership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in the Fall of 1989 under the supervision of Delta Sigma Omega Chapter (Salisbury's Graduate Chapter) and sponsored by campus advisor and sorority member, Dr. Clara Small.

The initiates of 1989 experienced racial discrimination on campus during their pledge process. Despite the intense harassment they faced, they did not back down. Their perseverance led to a resurgence of membership in Black Greek letter organizations on campus in the early nineties.
