Thomas Pollitt Family Bible

The Thomas Pollitt Family Bible, was published in 1767 and printed in London, England by Mark Baskett. The bible contains notations listing the births of Levin Morris (b. 1782) and the children of Titus, slaves owned by William Pollitt, ranging from 1783 to 1805. Two of the slaves became well-known Free Black men on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Rev. Frost Pollitt (1789-1871) and George Pollitt (1794-1850).

Tyaskin, Md. records

The records of Tyaskin, Maryland document the 1895 plat of land on the west side of Tyaskin Road as well as photographs of Tyaskin Wharf, and the Wetipquin Ferry. Also included is a survey conducted of the Colored Camp Ground in the Tyaskin District, dated 1898. Lastly, a reproduction canning label from the Tyaskin Packing Company and photographs from Old Asbury United Methodist Church.

Victor Brockenborough Letters

The Victor Brockenborough Letters are a collection of letters written to and by Victor Brockenborough between 1937 and 1946. The letters written between 1937 and 1942 are from Victor's godmother, Victoria Hardy, who lived in Spring Lake, New Jersey and Charleston, South Carolina. Some of the letters from Victoria are addressed to Victor's, Julie Brockenborough. The letters written in 1943 were mostly by Victor's pen pal, Margaret Pray, from Brooklyn, New York, but others were from Victor's twin brother, Billy, and one of his sister's friends, Mabel Skillman. The majority of the remaining letters in the collection were written by Victor to his girlfriend, Effie Shores, from Chicago, Illinois, and date from 1944 to 1946. These letters trace Victor and Effie's relationship from their first letter to their marriage. Contents of the letter include wedding plans, as well as Victor's training as a Naval electrician, his time on base in Hampton, Virginia and Glenview, Illinois, and his eventual discharge. He continued to write Effie after returning home to Corona, New York and she eventually joined him there. Other letters from 1944-1946 are from family member or friends. Included in the collection are photographs of friends and family members along with a comic strip.

The materials date from 1886-2009 with the bulk of the material dating from school activities and the integration of schools, 1960-1979. The evolution of school buildings in Wicomico County is documented through visual materials that include photographs and printed histories and newspaper clippings. Activities in various schools such as sporting events, musical performances, and plays are documented through photographs, programs, scrapbooks and newspaper clippings. Note: some of the folders are restricted due to sensitive content, permission from the archivist to view this files is required.

Y.W.C.A. Collection (New Castle, Pennsylvania)

The Y.W.C.A. Collection (New Castle, Pennsylvania) consists of records and ephemera related to the activities and governance of the New Castle, Pennsylvania chapter of the Young Women’s Christian Association primarily between 1907 and 1950, though some documents date as early as 1888 and others as late as 1963. Documents include minutes from the Board of Directors and various committees, scrapbooks that chronicled the chapter’s activities, notices and flyers from events hosted by the New Castle Y.W.C.A, materials about Camp Eastbrook, and memorabilia from different clubs within the chapter. The collection also includes some materials related to the New Castle Y.M.C.A, especially in regards to the building that was sold from the Y.M.C.A to the Y.W.C.A in 1913.
