Beginning in the mid-19th century, extensive personal correspondence between family members chronicles a broad family history over 100 years. Family bibles and photographs capture births, marriages and deaths of the Dixon and White families of Pocomoke City as well as life on the Eastern Shore in the late 19th and early 20th century.

This collection contains photographs, negatives, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings collected by Mel Toadvine during his tenure at Salisbury Daily Times from 1961 until his retirement in 1996. The majority of the collection comprised of photographs and negatives possibly used for news articles. Also, included is information pertaining to the Toadvine family. Series 3: Brewington Brothers contains a journal, letters of correspondence, accounting and financial information, and legal documents. Included are articles of incorporation and dissolution of the corporation of the News Publishing Company of Salisbury, Md., as well as memos and letters from managing editors concerning ideas for new marketing strategies in advertising to acquisitions of local news publishing companies of surrounding towns. In addition are materials concerning stockholder and directors meetings.

Also included is a surveyor's field book by an unknown author from 1853 to 1855. In the field book are tracts from East Princess Anne area: Woterford Corrected, Arabia, Woolf's Denn, Wolf Worth, Miles Good Luck, Middle Pasture, Foul's Meadow, Tilghman's Fortune and Turpins Choice.
