Abstract

The Salisbury Promise records documents the development of educational and faith-based programs for youth living in Salisbury and Wicomico County, Maryland. The program follows the goals of the America’s Promise Alliance standards to prepare youth for success. The records of this program are documented through reports, booklets and a series of ephemera from 1999-2010 with bulk of the material dating from 2003-2008.

Administrative History

The Salisbury Promise is comprised of local education and faith-based partnerships that have agreed to prepare young people for successful living in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland. Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children Local Management Board, Wicomico Mentoring Project, and Salisbury Horizons are three popular community programs that the Salisbury Promise provides. As of 2012, the Salisbury Promise has made Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland a six-time winner of the 100 Best Communities for Young People, according to America’s Promise Alliance. Over 320 communities nationwide applied for the 100 Best Communities for Young People Honor in 2012. Winners of the competition receive grant money to continue their programming for the youth in their region.
