Abstract

The Records of the Student Government Association document the internal and external activities of the Student Government (SGA) at Salisbury State University, now Salisbury University, from 1991 to 2015. The collection includes materials such as meeting minutes with handwritten notes, event planning sheets, SGA election rules and information, information on the American Student Government Association, thank you notes and plans for the BIG EVENT, grant information, retreat information, university-related reports, convocation and commencement seating charts, newspaper clippings, a scrapbook, photographs, an illustration, new student records, and copies of the Evergreen yearbook.

Administrative History

SGA is the Salisbury University Student Government Association. They instill Sea Gull Pride in Salisbury University students through the active involvement and engagement of the Student Government Association. They embody the motto of "Live Learn Lead," and selflessly serve the students. They hope to inspire change in all students to further their success at Salisbury University. They represent all students and their views, enabling a better experience for all and a greater sense of Gull Pride.

The first Student Government Association was formed in September of 1945 with Miss Charlotte White as the first student body president. An initiative was undertaken by the students the previous year to study the procedures of other colleges in preparation for enacting the new ruling body, which marked another milestone in Salisbury University‘s transformation from normal school to college.

Today the Student Government Association sponsors events, supports clubs and organizations and advocates for the concerns of the student body.

Scope and Content Note

The collection includes materials such as meeting minutes with handwritten notes, event planning sheets, SGA election rules and information, information on the American Student Government Association, thank you notes and plans for the BIG EVENT, grant information, retreat information, university-related reports, convocation and commencement seating charts, newspaper clippings, a scrapbook, photographs, an illustration, new student records, and copies of the Evergreen yearbook.

Arrangement Statement

The collection is arranged in three series: Series 1: Meeting Minutes, Series 2: Administrative Files, and Series 3: Yearbooks and New Student Records.

Most of the materials were originally stored in binders. Materials were removed from the binders, but kept together and in original order, except for the meeting minutes binder. The meeting minutes have been separated by academic year, but maintain their reverse-chronological original order.
