The Teaching American History program records document the creation and implementation of teaching methods using original local source records for Wicomico County teachers. The materials date from 2004-2006, with the bulk of the material dating to 2004. These records include compact discs containing lesson plans on American history created by the participants of the program. The records also contain audio cassettes and compact discs of oral history interviews. These interviews focus on a variety of topics relating to the Eastern Shore, including segregation and integration, education and World War II.

The Life of a P.O.W. Under the Japanese in Caricature was written and illustrated by Colonel Malcolm Vaughn Fortier. Published in 1946, the book contains caricatures drawn by Colonel Fortier while imprisoned in a Japanese P.O.W. camp in the Philippines, from April 9, 1942 to August 20, 1945. The drawings illustrate life as a P.O.W. and include captions to clarify some of the scenes. At the end of the book is a compiled roster of P.O.W.s associated with Colonel Fortier in prison camps. Some names include the soldier's "emergency address" while others detail when that man died and how or where he was buried.

This collection contains unedited videos with supplementary materials of the Veterans History Project done by Thinking and Doing Program of Wicomico County School Systems. Led by teachers Kelly Hamilton, Amanda Markos, Jen Watson and Kristen Briggs, the project, entitled "Historical Documentaries: Preserving the Past for Future Generations", was conducted by fourth graders. The Thomas Price collection consists of military and genealogical records accumulated by Thomas Price and dating from 1865 - 2001. It contains recordings and transcripts of interviews with three veterans of the First World War from Salisbury, Md. and records of the 115th Infantry Regiment of the Maryland Army National Guard. It also includes interviews, records, correspondence, photographs, publications and ephemera offering insight into military service during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The collection also contains photographs of Deal Island, Md. from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It also includes photographs, publications, and ephemera offering insight into civic and religious life on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Victor Brockenborough Letters

The Victor Brockenborough Letters are a collection of letters written to and by Victor Brockenborough between 1937 and 1946. The letters written between 1937 and 1942 are from Victor's godmother, Victoria Hardy, who lived in Spring Lake, New Jersey and Charleston, South Carolina. Some of the letters from Victoria are addressed to Victor's, Julie Brockenborough. The letters written in 1943 were mostly by Victor's pen pal, Margaret Pray, from Brooklyn, New York, but others were from Victor's twin brother, Billy, and one of his sister's friends, Mabel Skillman. The majority of the remaining letters in the collection were written by Victor to his girlfriend, Effie Shores, from Chicago, Illinois, and date from 1944 to 1946. These letters trace Victor and Effie's relationship from their first letter to their marriage. Contents of the letter include wedding plans, as well as Victor's training as a Naval electrician, his time on base in Hampton, Virginia and Glenview, Illinois, and his eventual discharge. He continued to write Effie after returning home to Corona, New York and she eventually joined him there. Other letters from 1944-1946 are from family member or friends. Included in the collection are photographs of friends and family members along with a comic strip.
Victor Riedel Collection

The Victor Riedel collection consists of a diary, memorandums, photographs, artifacts, and ephemera that document the Second World War experience of Marine Corps corporal Victor Riedel from 1944 to 1946. Riedel's diary, which also partially served as a scrapbook, includes entries from 1944 to 1945, but entries before November 1945 were recorded from a previous diary that was destroyed in a typhoon. He wrote about bombings, kamikaze attacks, and field clean up after planes crashed. Riedel served in the Pacific theater and was assigned to Okinawa, Japan, as well as other Japanese islands. Artifacts include patches, one medal, two Marine Corps pins, and a battlefield relic that is likely a piece of a Japanese plane. Also included are military orders (one regarding treatment of locals), a letter from another soldier, a poem from women, airplane identification aids, and a sketch of leaving Okinawa in February 1946.
