The Captain William Edward Wheatley papers document the commercial activities of the Sussex County, Delaware merchant. Wheatley bought, sold, traded, and shipped quantities of wood (including planks and shingles), ashes, agricultural produce, and more to markets mostly in Baltimore and Philadelphia. Included are his correspondence from 1843 to 1873, mostly from merchants including his son William in Philadelphia; Laurel and Broad Creek, Delaware real estate indentures, deeds, and legal agreements that date between 1786 and 1884; twelve notebooks and ledgers documenting the repair of scows and Wheatley's trade between 1822 and 1862; business receipts dating between 1814 and1873; and printed ephemera and loose papers dating between 1854 and 1921. Three indentures relate to an 1862-1863 real estate transaction between Wheatley and an African American, Isaac Morris.
Ellis, Vincent and Wheatley Families Collection

This collection contains genealogical research tracing the Ellis family line back to 1804. There are also photocopies of wills, land grants, and census research dating back to the mid-1700s. While a majority of the collection is genealogical information on the Ellis family, there are also magazines from the University of Maryland dating back to 1930. Included also is a hardback book commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 390th Bomb Group with Robert L Vincent’s name printed on the front cover
