Anthony 'Tony' Sarbanes was an American athlete, scholar, educator, and soldier born in Salisbury, MD in 1937 to Greek immigrant parents. Sarbanes played basketball for Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), and later embarked on a long career as a coach for various Salisbury schools in basketball, golf, and soccer. After serving as a teacher for several years, Sarbanes served as Vice Principal for several Salisbury schools, eventually becoming Principal for Wicomico High School and the first Principal of Parkside High School.

The Women’s Athletic Association was created to host athletic events for women attending the Maryland State Teachers College at Salisbury (now Salisbury University). This collection reflects events of the association via three large scrapbooks, photographs, score sheets, minutes, and administrative papers that date from 1953 to 1968. Such events included sports games, yearly banquets, and conferences not held in Salisbury.
