Abstract of Record Alexander Staton, 8 yo on 1 February next, son of Moses Staton who is of indigent circumstances, is appprenticed to Joseph J. Smith, with the consent of his father, until 1 February 1861 when 21 yo. To learn trade of farmer; at expiration of term to receive two suits of wearing apparel, one suitable for Sunday the the other for working days. [It is not stated in this document, but in next document, referring to George "Stayton", Moses "Stayton" is referred to as free negro.]
