Abstract Information about the Enslaved Person/People | "Note by transcriber: by will of John Pitts, Parker Pitts was freed. He was to be hired out until he reached age of 25. According to 1850 Cenus, Parker Pitts was 5 years older than his wife, Leah, which meant he reached freedom before she did." I give in trust with major S. Pitts and Arthur R. Savage all my slaves for a term of years for them to be hired out & the hires to be divided between Anslo Dennis & Edmund her son & Sally her daughter & James her son & one she is now pregnant with. The term for Elijah, Joshua & Minna to be hired 5 yrs & at expiration I give them freedom. George, Rose & Candis to be hired out 7 yrs & TBF at expiration. Nat, Adah, Mark, Isaac, Parket, Caleb, Toney, Esther, Leah, Sam & Bell to be hired out until they are 25 yo then TBF. My old negro man Toney I give freedom & should he want aid he shall have it out of hire of above named negroes as trustees think he needs it. Executor Major L. Pitts. Signed John Pitts 3 June 1816.
