This collection contains documents from 1964 to 1997 pertaining to the development of the History and social sciences programs at Salisbury State College, renamed Salisbury State University in 1988. It includes accreditation reports, meeting minutes, student groups such as the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta, and course preparation material.

As part of the Fulton School of liberal arts, the History Department has played an integral role in helping students become historians, as well as learn techniques for teaching history to others. The History department encourages professional student engagement with the Phi Alpha Theta honors society, which was installed at the institution in 1959. Phi Alpha Theta and the History/Political Science club have hosted and contributed to research conferences across the east coast, as well as present events for the local and college community. Sponsors of the History/Political Science club, Sylvia Bradley and Dr. Ray G. Thompson advocated and helped establish the Delmarva Historical Society in 1982, now the Nabb Research Center. Salisbury State University became part of the University System of Maryland in 1988. 

This collection contains documents from 1964 to 1997 pertaining to the development of the History and social sciences programs at Salisbury State College, renamed Salisbury State University in 1988. The collection features documents regarding the NASDTEC and NCATE accreditation process of the university’s history and social sciences programs and the logistics of creating a Master’s program in teacher’s education. Course syllabi from 1974’s Summer Educational Experience (SEE) Program display the differences between upper and lower-level classes, as well as guidebooks for incoming history students. Booklets detail SSC’s involvement in aiding University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), a historically Black college, in its “Desegregation plan” to create a more multiracial campus. Documents from Salisbury State College show the activities of the History and Social Sciences clubs as well as Civil War reenactments hosted and performed by the History/ Political Science club. The History Club also produced publications regarding events occurring in the history department. A 1982 request from the History/Poli-Sci club sponsors advocate for the creation of what would later become the Nabb Research Center. The Phi Alpha Theta: Eta-Iota chapter documents contain pamphlets from regional conferences and student research submissions. Also included are documents related to Salisbury State University’s evaluations and tenure review committee. A History Department meeting book contains minutes from the 1996-1997 academic year regarding admissions, courses, and SSU’s status within the University System of Maryland (USM).
