Scope and Content Note
NCOH-0008_00001: This interview was conducted by Mellisa Schock with Tom Markos on July 11, 2018. Markos shares his experience in the Nike-Hercules missile defense program stationed in Tolchester beach near Chestertown, Maryland. He covers various topics from camp life to detailed descriptions of the program and what the troops stationed there were trained to do.
NCOH-0008_00002: This interview was conducted by Tyler Dreiblatt and Adam Rudy with Harry Basehart on July 11, 2018. Harry Baseheart shares his experience as a member of the Armed Services in the late 1960's and early 1970's and his memories of Vietnam. He describes his training in artillery and his coordination with the ARVN in Vietnam against the North Vietnamese.
NCOH-0008_00003: THis interview was conducted by Richard Bernhard with George Murray on July 11, 2018. George Murray is a Vietnam War veteran who served as an intellegence commander specializing in counter intellegence. He describes his tour in Vietnam in the Quang Tri province and the various challenges that plagued the troops stationed there, including fragging and drug use.
NCOH-0008_00004: This interview was conducted by Daniel Pierson and John Pellegrini with George "Buddy" Murray on July 11, 2018. George Murray is a United States Marine Corps veteran from just after the Korean conflict. In this interview, he describes the training he endured in that time and his views on the progressing changes to the Korean conflict in modern times. He also recalls a tragic incident known as the "Ribbon Creek Incident".
NCOH-0008_00005: This interview was conducted by Justin Kemped and Joanne Tanner with Brigadier General Mary C. Willis on July 11, 2018. Mary Willis is a retired General and educator from Salisbury who became one of the first female generals in the United States Army. She describes her various accomplishments and positions, including presiding over the first class of female West Point graduates in 1980. She spent much of her career in Germany during the cold war, ending with her being on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon under Colin Powell.
NCOH-0008_00006: This interview was conducted by Gloria Green with Edward Taylor on July 11, 2018. Edward Taylor is a Korean War veteran who was awarded two bronze stars for his valor. He talks of his tour of service as well as his passion in his hometown bridge over Tyaskin Creek near Wetipquin, Maryland.
NCOH-0008_00007: This interview was conducted by Matthew Crosom with Newell Quinton on July 11, 2018. Newell Quinton is a veteran of the US Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War. In this interview, he describes his tour of service and the intricacies of his duties in Vietnam as well as his time in the US Army Reserves after his tour was complete.
NCOH-0008_00008: This interview was conducted by Kristine Sieloff with Kenneth Forest on July 11, 2018. Kenneth Forest trained to be a member of the US 11th Armored Cavalry in Fort Irwin, California. His interview focuses on the impact of "Don't Ask, Dont Tell" on himself and other members of the Armed Services, as well as the atrocities committed against LGBTQ members of the Armed Services.
