Abstract

"Sentimental Journeys: Delmarva Remembers World War II" is a collection of interviews of fifty(50) World War II veterans from the Delmarva Peninsula. The collection was assembled and produced by Judith M. Ferrand in the spring and summer of 1995 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, in association with WBOC-TV and Wor-Wic Community College. The interviews of the fifty veterans cover all topics surrounding the Second World War including life prior to the war, enlistment and training, various battles, important individuals such as Generals Patton and McArthur, and the Veteran's views of their service. Included with the Interviews is a plastic-bound book that uses the information from the fifty interviews to tell their collective story, from the causes of the war to Veteran's evaluation of their service. Digitized versions of each tape are available upon request.

Administrative History

This project was conducted and organized by Judith M. Ferrand through the auspices of WBOC-TV and Wor-Wic Community College. Segments of interviews were used in public service announcements aired on WBOC-TV from V-E Day to V-J Day 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Scope and Content Note

"Sentimental Journeys: Delmarva Remembers World War II" is a collection of interviews of fifty(50) World War II veterans from the Delmarva Peninsula. Veterans include those who served in all five brances of the US Armed Forces (US Navy, US Air Force, US Army, US Marine Corps, and US Coast Guard) in both theaters of World War II (Pacific and Euopean). This collection of interviews is organized into nine video-cassette tape volumes. Each tape is about 1-2 hours in length containing 4-7 interviews each. Each interviewee discusses their experiences during the war and freely speak about the subjects therein, including their feelings and thoughts on related subjects. Such related subjects include battlefield memories (Iwo Jima, the Battle of the Bulge, D-Day), training in various loactions throughout the US, and their experience coming home after the war. Also included are citizens who remained on the Home Front during the war, recalling their experiences with rationing, shortages, matierial drives, and other wartime issues. (Names in order of appearance):
