Abstract

This collection consists of letters sent to Paul E. Martin during his service in the United States Navy during the Second World War. The letters run from 1944 to 1946, with letters from his future wife Julia M. Reed, parents Edwin and Nettie Martin, sister Ruth Hare, and nieces Shirley and Gloria Hare. There is also correspondence and media related to Martin’s membership in the Freemason fraternal organization. Types of media in the collection include letters, greeting cards, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings.

Biographical History

Paul E. Martin was born September 21, 1920 in Hampstead, Maryland. His parents were B. Edwin Martin and Nettie McComas Martin. He served in the Navy during the Second World War and immediately after. Following his discharge he worked at Lockheed Martin and Black & Decker until his retirement and was married to Julia Reed, his wife until her death. He died on September 23, 2010.

Scope and Content Note

The letters in this collection consist of letters sent to Paul E. Martin, but do not include letters he sent. The letters and other media run from January 1944 to March 1946, with the bulk of the documents being from 1945 and 1946.
