Abstract

Rick Maloof photography collection documents the professional and personal life of Salisbury, Maryland photographer Rick Maloof. The photographs, brochures, and photographic slides, date from 1960 to 2010. His professional photographic slides, photographs, and brochures encompass his work as an artist, wedding photographer, and commercial photographer in and around the Eastern Shore. Portraits make up the bulk of the material, as well as landscapes, and still life shots, are included in his professional images. Maloof’s personal photographs and photographic slides document his personal life, with images of his daughter Alyssa, his family, and his friends.

Biographical History

Rick Maloof (1942-2010) was born in Boston, Massachusetts; after graduating high school in 1960, Maloof joined the United States Army. During his enlisted service, he was part of a reconnaissance patrol company and Special Forces. Maloof served in the Vietnam War, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. Upon returning to the United States, he taught ROTC at Salisbury University and the University of Delaware. Maloof retired from the Army after 23 years in 1983, after which he devoted his time to photography. He was Salisbury University’s official photographer and a commercial photographer for many businesses on the Eastern Shore, including Perdue Farms, Inc. Maloof created many photographic works focusing on the wildlife, architecture, and people of the Delmarva Peninsula. Rick was an adventurer and backpacked all over the world. He was a certified scuba diver, pilot, and skydiver, as well as a food and red wine connoisseur.

Arrangement Statement

The Rick Maloof photography collection has been arranged into two series, PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS and PHOTOGRAPHS,  and PERSONAL IMAGES. Professional materials include commercial brochures with images by Rick Maloof, studio portraits, and Delmarva portraits, landscapes, architecture, and still life. The personal images document the life of Rick Maloof, with images of his family and friends, as well as photographic slides from his trips around the world.

Folders are listed by their location in each box; any given subject may be dispersed throughout the entirety of the collection.
