Rick Maloof (1942-2010) was born in Boston, Massachusetts; after graduating high school in 1960, Maloof joined the United States Army. During his enlisted service, he was part of a reconnaissance patrol company and Special Forces. Maloof served in the Vietnam War, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. Upon returning to the United States, he taught ROTC at Salisbury University and the University of Delaware. Maloof retired from the Army after 23 years in 1983, after which he devoted his time to photography. He was Salisbury University’s official photographer and a commercial photographer for many businesses on the Eastern Shore, including Perdue Farms, Inc. Maloof created many photographic works focusing on the wildlife, architecture, and people of the Delmarva Peninsula. Rick was an adventurer and backpacked all over the world. He was a certified scuba diver, pilot, and skydiver, as well as food and red wine connoisseur.
