Abstract

The Henry Fillmore Lankford papers consist of wills and genealogical information kept by Lankford, an attorney in Somerset County, Maryland, between 1909 and 1920. The wills primarily document Somerset and Northampton County families in the 17th and 18th centuries. Also included are two oversize items: a 1911 issue of "The Canned Good Trade" and a circa 1911 advertisement for Chevrolet automobiles.

Biographical History

Henry Fillmore Lankford (1856-1935) was the son of Henry Smith Lankford (1823-1905) & Mary Dameron Pinckard (1831-1883). He attended Washington Academy and St. John's Academy. Studied law under John Crisfield. Admitted to the bar in 1877 and appointed Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Somerset County. Clerk of Circuit Court in 1883. Vice President and Attorney of the Bank of Somerset. Helped establish the Princess Anne Telephone Company. "Fillmore" was a lawyer and lived at "Beckford" in Princess Anne. A portion of his obituary reads: "He was married June 23, 1880 to Miss Ida Marshall, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Marshall, who had but recently moved to Somerset county from Philadelphia."
