Abstract

The Delmarva Peninsula Golf Association (DPGA) was founded in 1929 and is comprised of several golf clubs throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. These records have been collected by Richard (Rick) Bisker, who worked as Administrative Assistant for the DPGA. Included in the records are information on the organization’s history and membership, financial statements, tournament flyers and results, meeting notes, correspondence, and scrapbooks spanning 1935-2015 (bulk date 1980-2015).

Administrative History

The Delmarva Peninsula Golf Association (DPGA) was founded in 1929. The Association was initially formed with 7-member clubs. By 2013, the Association was comprised of 19 golf clubs throughout the entire Delmarva Peninsula. In the 1950s, the DPGA created the junior golf program, sponsoring golf tournaments for people under the age of 18. They began their DPGA Scholarship Program in 1976, which provides college students in their golfing programs with financial aid. The DPGA’s philosophy is “that golf activities can be promoted through organized effort on the Delmarva Peninsula, and that these activities will foster a spirit of fellowship and good will, as well as mutual understanding among the citizens of the communities of the Delmarva Peninsula.”

The Delmarva Peninsula Golf Association (DPGA) was founded in 1929 and is comprised of several golf clubs throughout the Delmarva Peninsula, including the Cambridge Country Club, Chester River Yacht and Country Club, Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club, Elks Golf Club, Garrisons Lake Golf Club, Green Hill Yacht and Country Club, Maple Dale Country Club, Nassawango Country Club, Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club, Ocean Pines Association, Old Landing Golf Course, and Rehoboth Beach Country Club, among many others. These records have been collected by Richard Bisker, who worked as Administrative Assistant for the DPGA. Included in the records are information on the organization’s history and membership, financial statements, tournament flyers and results, meeting notes, correspondence, and scrapbooks spanning 1935-2015 (bulk date 1980-2015). The records also include information and applications for the DPGA Scholarship Program, which was created in 1976.
