Dr. William H. Wroten was an Easton native and worked as a professor and chairman for the history and political science departments at Salisbury University for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1980. The majority of Dr. Wroten's collection is his research notes, which cover a large number of topics such as Assateague, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, pirates, and the history of the Delmarva area. Dr. Wroten's teaching materials include articles and notes he had for specific topics, such as the American Civil War, Native American history, early colonial life, and local history, as well as syllabi and research papers from students. Included in this collection are also a number of his published articles from his newspaper column as well as scripts from his TV program on WBOC.
Dr. William H. Wroten Jr. was born in Easton in 1920. He received a bachelor's degree from Kentucky State University, a master's degree from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Colorado. He was a teacher at two high schools and a professor at a number of universities prior to being a professor and chairman of the history and political science department for 25 years at Salisbury University. He had a regular column on Delmarva history in The Salisbury Daily Times as well as a WBOC-TV program. He also wrote History of Assateague Island which was published by Tidewater Press.
