Scope and Content Note
The George Whitehead Collection ranges from 1986 to 2017 and documents Dr. Whitehead's contributions to the Bellavance Honors and Shore Corps/PALS programs at Salisbury University, and his dedication to community service. The collection is divided into four series: Publications (Series 1), Correspondances (Series 2), University Records (Series 3), and ShoreCrops/PALS (Series 4).
The first series, Publications, ranges from 1993 to 2017 and contains newspaper clippings, photocopies of newspaper articles, and newsletters. The newspaper clippings mostly discuss Salisbury students partaking in community service projects and news surrounding Salisbury University.
The second series, Correspondances, ranges from 1986 to 2016 and contains letter, emails, and notes to George Whitehead. In addition, there are emails to University Faculty, public addresses from Convocation 1993, the induction ceremony for Phi Kappa Phi from 2016, as well as an inaugural speech given by George Whitehead in 1997.
The third series is titled University Records and is the largest series. It ranges from 1989 to 2016 and contains programs and pamphlets from University events, photos from Service Day as well as a class project, and records from Education Commission of the State conferences from 2000 to 2009. In addition, this series contains class syllabi, mainly from George Whitehead's classes, but also syllabi from honors courses.
The final series is titled ShoreCorps/PALS and ranges from 1996 to 2016. There are various graduation programs from ShoreCorps/PALS graduation but the majority of this series was taken from a binder that George Whitehead kept to document the ShoreCorps/PALS activities from 1996 to 2015. The orginal order of this binder was maintained. Items include newspapers, newspaper clippings, photos, five CDs, program flyers, brochures from the Salvation Army, meeting notes and agendas, and newsletters.
