Abstract

H. Graham Hayman Jr collection consists of a letter, magazines and artifacts documenting Hayman’s military service. It includes a letter describing his enlistment and training in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the United States and his assignment to the Office of Strategic Services in India, and periodicals offering insight into military service during the Second World War.

Biographical History

Henry Graham Hayman Jr. was born on May 6, 1917, in Salisbury, Md. to Harry Graham and Jennie Bradley Hayman. On October 4, 1942, he married Arla Gwendolyn Collis. The couple had a son, Harry Graham Hayman III. Inducted into the Army in 1943, Hayman was trained as a Weather Observer in the Army Air Corps. In 1945, he was assigned to the Office of Strategic Services in India. After duty in Calcutta and New Delhi, Hayman returned to the United States and was discharged in 1946. He worked as a purchasing agent for Dulany Foods, Inc. and the Wicomico County Board of Education until he retired in 1987. He was a past president and lifetime member of the Salisbury Optimist Club, and a parishioner of Asbury United Methodist Church. Hayman died in Seaford, Delaware on April 17, 2009.
