Abstract

This collection includes items collected from the Langrall family and given to Dean Langrall from his father, H. O. Langrall, Jr. when the store closed, dating from 1938 to 1972. The collection comprises of the scripts from the WSAL Radio Station where the broadcaster gives a five-minute advertisement for H. O. Langrall Furniture Co. There are also several copies of a receipt showing Mr. Langrall's purchase of these advertisement slots, as well as one newspaper ad for his furniture. Also included are newspaper articles, a marriage certificate for Hubert Orland Langrall, Sr. and Monnie Mae Langrall, 1923, a scrapbook of H.O Langrall Jr's experience in World War Two, and a Sunday school promotional certificate from Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church.

Biographical History

Hurbert Orland Langrall, Jr., (1925-2015) was the proprietor of Langrall Furniture Store; he was the son of Hubert Orland and Monnie Mae Langrall, who were married in 1923. H.O. Langrall served in the United States Army during World War II. 

Scope and Content Note

This collection includes items of the Langrall family, given to Dean Langrall by his father, H. O. Langrall, Jr. when the store closed, dating from 1938 to 1972. The collection contains a five-minute advertisement script for H. O. Langrall Furniture Co. from the WSAL Radio Station. There are also several copies of a receipt showing Mr. Langrall's purchase of these advertisement slots, as well as one newspaper ad for his furniture. Also included are newspaper articles, a marriage certificate for Hubert Orland Langrall, Sr. and Monnie Mae Langrall in 1923, and a Sunday school promotional certificate from Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church. Also included is a scrapbook containing correspondence and newspaper articles from H.O Langrall Jr’s time in World War Two. Photographs from World War Two show various individuals in Japan. There is also a newspaper clipping of a store closure announcement due to the death of Monnie Mae Langrall. Other newspaper clippings detail important sports moments of the 40s-60s. Other items include a program for the Soroptimist Club of Salisbury Youth Achievement dinner in 1972 and a letter from 1921.
