The Thomas Price collection consists of military and genealogical records accumulated by Thomas Price and dating from 1865 - 2001. It contains recordings and transcripts of interviews with three veterans of the First World War from Salisbury, Md. and records of the 115th Infantry Regiment of the Maryland Army National Guard. It also includes interviews, records, correspondence, photographs, publications and ephemera offering insight into military service during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The collection also contains photographs of Deal Island, Md. from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It also includes photographs, publications, and ephemera offering insight into civic and religious life on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Born on October 14, 1951 in Salisbury, Md. to Thomas B. Price and Alice Mae Anderson, Thomas Price is a collector of militaria and a local historian. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and earned a B.A. and M.A. from Salisbury State College. He married Karen Ridenour and worked as a hearing officer for the Maryland Department of Corrections. Mr. Price acquired his collection through antique stores and militaria shows.
The collection documents military service in the United States and civic and religious life on the Delmarva Peninsula. The collection contains facsimiles and photocopies.
Series I. 115th Infantry Regiment, Maryland Army National Guard, contains interviews, records, correspondence, photographs and ephemera from the 115th Infantry Regiment from 1917 to 2001. It includes a report on an accident involving a regimental jeep and regimental newsletters.
Series II. World War I contains records, correspondence, photographs and publications related to the war from 1917 to 1931. It includes a draft registration card, records of the 310th Field Artillery and issues of The World’s Work, a current events magazine from 1914 to 1916.
Series III. World War II and the Korean War contains records, correspondence, photographs and publications related to the wars from 1932 to 1995. It includes dozens of photographs of soldiers deployed in Europe and Asia.
Series IV. Price Family Genealogy contains records and photographs related to the Price and Brown families from 1870 to 1951. It includes photographs and newspaper clippings of the Kingston Homemakers’ Club of Somerset County, Maryland.
Series V. Delmarva History contains records, photographs, and ephemera related to civic and religious life on the Delmarva Peninsula from 1865 to 1983. It includes an election ballot from 1924 and a football program from 1954.
The collection is arranged in five Series. Series I is arranged by subject: service members’ papers, regimental records, photographs and publications. Series II is arranged by subject: service members’ papers, followed by publications. Series III is arranged by subject: service members’ papers, photographs and ephemera. Series IV and V are arranged chronologically.
