This source (and description) was extracted from data provided under Creative Commons from the Library of Virginia’s VIRGINIA UNTOLD: THE AFRICAN AMERICAN NARRATIVE project. The Library’s African American Narrative project aims to provide greater accessibility to pre-1865 African American history and genealogy found in the rich primary sources in its holdings. Election records consist of lists of voters by county, magisterial district, and sometimes precinct, who participated in elections. Names are recorded alphabetically by first letter of the surname (though last names are not generally listed alphabetically within each letter). Elections held October 22, 1867, occurred while Virginia was under military rule and were the first elections in which African Americans were allowed to vote. (NOTE: Accomack County's 2nd district is not included)
