The Richard Hoffman Collection contains documents that reflect the time Dr. Richard Hoffman spent at Salisbury University from 1993 to 2019. He was professor of management for over 25 years and interim dean of Perdue School of Business for three years. During his time as interim dean, he oversaw the addition of a museum to the Perdue School. He gathered a small library of scholarly journals on business, management, and marketing. He also led a winter study abroad program that went to France, England, and Germany. There are photo albums documenting the study abroad trips from 1995 to 2003. Other materials in this collection are a plaque of outstanding research from Perdue School, CDs documenting the Perdue School museum and a study abroad trip, and blueprints for the Perdue School and museum built in 2011.

Richard Curzon Hoffman IV graduated from Trinity College in 1970 with a BA in History. He then got his MBA from University of Pennsylvania in 1973. Finally, he got his Ph.D. in Management and Administration from Indiana University Bloomington in 1982.  Hoffman started working at Salisbury State University as professor of management in 1993. In 1995, he was awarded an Outstanding Research award from the Perdue School of Business. He chaperoned winter study abroad terms from 1995 until 2003. He was also the interim dean for the Perdue School of Business from 2007 to 2010. He then taught strategic management to graduate students in Estonia at University of Tartu for five months in 2013. He continued to be a professor at Salisbury University until 2019, when he retired with the position Professor Emeritus.

The Richard Hoffman Collection includes scholarly journals ranging in topics from small business management to decisions science to services marketing, which make up a majority of this collection. His Ph.D. dissertation, “Environment, Scanning Activity, Formal Organizational Procedures, and Bureaucratic Politics as Source of Influence on Strategic Decisions: An International Study”, is also included. He was awarded an Outstanding Research award for his research at Salisbury State University during the 1994-1995 school year. As a professor, he led winter study abroad trips that he documented in four photo albums from 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2003. There is also a CD containing information about a winter study abroad trip. There are other CDs that contain information from local news outlets about the Perdue School Museum. The collection also has blueprints for the Perdue School and museum added in 2011. Before any blueprints were drawn up, Perdue School of Business held a committee to discuss the museum’s impact, development, and benefits. Hoffman was on this committee as the Dean of Perdue, and retained a copy of the committee report, along with the exhibit plans for the museum from the company Richter, Cornbrooks, Gribble Architects.
