Abstract

The WSCL Collection ranges from 1985 to 2018, with the majority of the materials dated between 1990 and 1999. WSCL 89.5 is part of Delmarva Public Radio and is the Fine Arts & Culture Radio Station. This collection contains VHS Tapes, CDs, Delmarva Public Radio Committee materials such as by-laws and proposals, awards, and a number of photographs from WSCL events for employees and the public.

Administrative History

Established in 1983 by Salisbury State College, WSCL is a Delmarva Public Radio station dedicated to classical music. Several years later, in 1998, WSDL was added into the Delmarva Public Radio sphere. The station has won a State of Delaware Senate Tribute Award in 1992 and a State of Maryland Award in 1997. Their mission is to provide access to programming that may otherwise be unavailable anywhere else and to keep the population informed about important issues.

Scope and Content Note

The WSCL Collection ranges from 1986 to 2018, with bulk dates from 1990 to 1999. The collection is divided into 7 series with Series 1 divided into 6 subseries and Series 2 into 4 subseries.

Series 1 is titled Audio Visual and is divided into six subseries: Subseries 1 - Cassette Tapes, Subseries 2 - VHS Tapes, Subseries 3 - DVDs, Subseries 4 - CDs, Subseries 5 - Floppy Disks, and Subseries 6 - Magnetic Reel Tapes. All of the audiovisual materials vary in topics. The CDs are both local recordings and larger artists. The CDs are focused on Veteran's Health.

Series 2 is titled Print Materials and is divided into four subseries: Subseries 1 - Awards, Subseries 2 - Programs, Subseries 3 - Event Calendars, and Subseries 4 - Magazines and Newsletters. WSCL received multiple awards for its work in 1992 and 1997. They also kept different public event programs, the newsletters they printed titled "Noteworthy" from 1996 to 2008, and a Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival from 2009.

Series 3 is titled NPR Materials. This series contains materials related to the National Public Radio organization, which includes photographs and newsletters for NPR.

Series 4 is titled WSCL Documents and contains audition tapes, volunteer announcements, the Celebration of Music event memorabilia, WSCL program logs, the WSCL Handbook, and the Salisbury University Employee Handbook from 2011.

Series 5 is titled Public Radio Delmarva Committee and contains the Public Radio Delmarva Committee Manual from 1948 to 1987, various brochures, envelopes, and sticky notes with the Public Radio Delmarva logo.

Series 6 is titled Photographs. This series contains photographs from 1992 to 2000. These photographs are from various WSCL events, including parties held for volunteers. This series also includes photograph negatives. 

Series 7 is titled Artifacts. This series contains two "On Air" lights from the WSCL station.
