Abstract

The A. Nayland Page papers document Dr. Page's time as the Academic Dean for Salisbury State College. While the documents range from 1965 to 1979, Dr. Page was only Academic Dean from 1976 to 1979. Materials include academic council and committee meeting notes, budget information, material on the College Level Entrance Program, commencement information, correspondence, and Deans meeting notes. As the Academic Dean, Dr. Page corresponded with many students about the transference of college credits, excusing course requirements, and handling credit deficiencies.

Biographical History

Dr. A. Nayland Page joined the History Department at Salisbury State College in 1956. During his time at SSC, he sat as Faculty Senate President and pushed through the approval for a tuition waiver for univeristy employees of the state colleges. During the spring 1976 semester, Dr. Page was on sabbatical in Chile when he was offered the position of Academic Dean. Page originally refused the position but aggreed once he returned to SSC in the summer. Dr. Page continued as Academic Dean until 1979, when he became the acting president of the college following President Norman Crawford's resignation. He presided as acting president until 1980 when Dr. Thomas Bellavance took over.
