The Dr. Ida Belle Wilson Thomas collection documents the life and education of Dr. Ida Belle Wilson Thomas, a teacher at Maryland State Normal School, now Salisbury University, from 1906 to 1972. The collection includes Ida Belle's high school diploma, her diploma from Columbia University, two publications: Maryland by Bernadine Bailey and Historic Virginia magazine, an Evergreen Piecemeal yearbook from 1972, and two serving trays with Holloway Hall on them.

Ida Belle Wilson was born to Edward and Margaret Wilson in 1890. She graduated from Pocomoke City High School in 1906 and from Maryland State Normal School, Towson, now Towson University, in 1910. She was awarded her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in History from Columbia University in 1924.  Upon it's opening, Ida Belle worked at Maryland State Normal School in Salisbury, Maryland, now Salisbury University, as a teacher of Social Sciences from 1925 to 1961. In 1931, she married Marvin Waterson Thomas. She continued her own education with graduate work for a doctorate at the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins University and earned her doctorate in education from New York University in 1943 or 1944. While at Maryland State Teachers College, she wrote a history of the school entitled "Maryland State's Teacher College at Salisbury, 1925-1949." Ida Belle died in 1977.
