Abstract

This collection consists of cards (originally called coupons) that contain detailed information about students at Salisbury University from 1937 to 1953. Each card represents a student’s work in one course—providing the course name, professor, semester, grade, and days absent—and students have multiple cards for each semester.

Administrative History

The Maryland State Normal School at Salisbury opened in September 1925 as a two-year college to train elementary teachers on the state’s Eastern Shore. In 1935, the Legislature authorized the college to grant Bachelor of Science degrees and the school was renamed State Teachers College.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of cards (originally called coupons) that contain detailed information about students at Salisbury University from 1937 to 1953. Each card represents a student’s work in one course—providing the course name, professor, semester, grade, and days absent—and students have multiple cards for each semester.

Arrangement Statement

The records remain in the original order – primarily chronological and secondarily alphabetical. Each box contains a range of one to two semesters with cards (left to right, front to back) organized alphabetically by student’s last name.
