Abstract

This Oral History collection documents the actions and efforts of individuals to preserve sections of regional Chesapeake Bay history. Currently, one interview with Jefferson Boyer and his actions to preserve Whitehaven, MD, the Whitehaven Hotel, and other such activities. Compiled transcriptions are attached.

Administrative History

"The mission of the Whitehaven Heritage Association (WHA) is to identify, interpret, collect and share the cultural and natural heritage of Whitehaven and its surrounds. The WHA works to preserve the schoolhouse in its traditional role as a community center and to maintain other elements essential to the character of the village."

Scope and Content Note

NCOH-0002_00001: This interview was conducted by Creston Long with Jefferson Boyer on March 24, 2017. Boyer describes his efforts to preserve sections of Whitehaven, MD, particularly the Whitehaven hotel, as well as the requirements needed to turn a town into a historic district. He talks of his work with the Whitehaven Heritage Association and their fundraising from patrons and active members of the Preservation Trust of Wicomico County. He also talks of the state of preservation today and the possibility of its continuation in the future. He finishes the interview with more discussion about the Whitehaven Hotel and it's preservation and history.
