Abstract

This scrapbook, created by Estella R. Venable, was created in 1945, but some of the materials within the scrapbook were made as early as 1941. The scrapbook contains ephemera such as postcards, stamps, receipts, speeches, newspaper clippings, letters, and organization documents. Many of the newspaper clippings concern World War II events.

Biographical History

Estella R. Venable married W. E. Veneable. She had a daughter named Francesca who married Bill Lockhart in 1945 and moved to California. She also has a step-son. Estella R. Veneable was involved with the Grand Charter Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York. She was a matron and a trustee for the Order of the Eastern Star. This organization focused on assisting World War II soldiers. They sent items to combat zones such as cigarattes, instruments, washing machines, sewing machines, books, portable typewriters, radios, and additional items. They also sent these items to hospitals for soldiers. 

Scope and Content Note

The scrapbook of Estella R. Venable dates from 1941 to 1945. It includes journal entries including poems written by Estelle, dates for birthdays and anniversaries, and how long her daughter has been married for. The scrapbook contains postcards, stamps, receipts, speeches, newspaper clippings, letters, and organization documents. There are many newspaper clippings concerning World War II. She also makes frequent entries about how she misses her daughter, who was married in 1945.
